Bachelor in Project Planning and Management

Overview

The degree of Bachelor of Project Planning and Management prepares undergraduate students for careers in project planning and management in both public and private sectors of the economy.  It also provides an avenue for achieving the Millennium Development Goals and the objectives of Vision 2030 for national development. This programme is highly relevant in all areas of management as it meets the needs of the modern manager whose role is continuously evolving. In organizations and businesses, project management techniques are useful in all areas that require managing change whether it is people, materials or systems. The programme intends to offer education and training in project management to a broad spectrum of students from the East African region and beyond.

This programme fills a major gap for students who complete the diploma programme and wish to join an undergraduate degree in the same field but have been unable to continue or have opted for programmes which are not of their choice.  The Bachelors programme, therefore, completes the logical progression of training in project planning and management ranging from Certificate, Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma, Masters and Doctor of Philosophy in Project Planning and Management.

To improve on its utility, the programme will continuously be reviewed and realigned to meet the changing needs of organizations and society in general. The programme has been developed around three main themes in project planning and management: Project Monitoring, Evaluation and Control; Project Planning, Design and Implementation and Project Financing. The courses comprise of core units and electives in level three and four.

The programme will be offered through face to face and open, distance and eLearning modes (ODeL). The flexibility that comes with ODeL modes will accommodate the special needs of those in full-time employment and increase access to a larger number of students.
